Dinner planning made easy

In my house, 30 minutes before dinnertime is always decision making time. And busy nights are no help either. So I thought up a plan to cut down my scrambling for dinner and also my shopping list making time.

First I listed 28 meals (7 days x 4 weeks). That means we never have the same meal in one month.

Next I seperated them into weeks doing 4 quick and easy meals and 3 effort meals per week. This way I have options according to whats going on that day.

Then since I go shopping once every two weeks, I made a shopping list for two of the meal menus.

Last I bought a white erase board at target for a dollar and wrote the 2 weeks of meals on it. I stuck this on the fridge.

Now when dinnertime comes I look on the list of meals and know that I have all the ingredients for each one and have a choices. Its also perfect for my husband to know what to make for dinner when I'm not home. After each meal is made we just cross it off the list. This works so great in my house and we have cut down on our eating out because there are easy quick meals that are right there to choose.

Bargain Treasure

While scoping out the local goodwill, I found this amazing find for 45 cents! yes I repeat 45 cents! Its a doll that tells the story of snow white. The pages change the different heads to go along with the story. I am planning on giving it a good wash and use it as a stocking stuffer for my daughter for christmas.

These are a few of my favorite things

These five cleaning supplies are my saving grace. What are your favorite cleaning supplies?? or any cleaning tips?

  1. Arm & Hammer Scrub Free Bathroom Cleaner with Bleach - kills any and all mildew & mold... just spray, wait a few minutes and wipe clean with a magic eraser. Its really that easy!

  2. Magic Eraser- I really don't know how I ever managed to clean before these. I use these on my walls, floors, and its amazing how clean you can get a little tykes yard sale find!

  3. Vinager- I always have a spray bottle with water/vinager mix in my cleaning bucket. There are so many uses for this. Instead of high price of windex this solution works great on windows. I also use this to spray around my toilet and wipe clean with a paper towel. It kills mold and is a great all natural cleaner.

  4. Bleach- I keep another spray bottle of bleach/water mix to sanitize my kitchen every day and now with flu season I spray a paper towel daily and wipe door knobs, light switches, phones, computer keyboard and the faucets.

  5. Roll of blue disposable shop rags- These rags are like paper towel with power times 10! I use them mostly to wipe down my floor. I find these in the car/tool department of Chinamart (walmart).

Mini Caramel apples- the healthy way!

I found this great yummy tummy idea last year on familyfun.com. I made it for my daughter's class for snack at pumpkin patch. It called for Peanut butter chips but I used Skippy's Natural Peanut butter and just melted it a bit in a glass bowl in the microwave. The PB came off the apple a little more then I would have liked but it did the the function plus it was much more healthy!
The mini apples ended up being great because the children could keep thier dirty hands on the stick and not touch the food and it was a great hit! Everyone thought it was such a great idea. I think I might try it again this year for the Halloween party.

Don't eat that bread!!!

While at the doctors office, we started discussing a healthy diet and the Dr. informed me that bread has been a large cause of diabetes. Bread can actually be good for us if it contains good grains that are needed in the food pyramid, but bread from the supermarket has sugar which makes it unhealthy for us. Baking it yourself is a great idea but unless you have a bread maker, its a timely task. Like myself, I know there are a lot of busy moms out there and time is something we don't have much of. Another good idea would to be to support our local bakeries. Bakeries usually do not add sugar because its not needed and the bread is usually way more tasty then store bread and I have actually found it to be lower in price! I am really looking forward to farmers market season so that I can get some great bread there along with yummy produce! Stay healthy and support your community!

So grateful for my american freedoms

So often we take forgranted our amazing freedoms in this wonderful country. Many people complain about the imperfections in our political system but when I watch news clips like these, I have to wonder what we have to complain about?? watch this
